ARK Middle School Girls - Boston (Fall 2023)

Welcome to the Middle School Girl's cohort! ARKanum offers opportunities for young Muslims to grow as the world's future leaders. This Middle School girls' cohort provides a welcoming sisterhood for girls to have a a dependable community. Each week will push mentees to discover and explore new chapters of their deen, meet new friends, and and learn more about their community. Join us every Saturday at the ISBCC to join this sisterhood family! Give your child the chance to grow, learn, and have a fantastic time. Enroll them in the Ark Program today! If you require financial aid, please reach out to info@arkanum.net. Please note: Middle and High School cohorts boys and girls will meet 4:30 to 8:30 pm on Saturdays. Location for the Middle School and High School Cohorts may vary from ISBCC, to other venues in the area (within a 10 mile range). We are finalizing the schedule soon.

Ruqayah Al-Ashabi is a driven and energetic ARKanum Peer mentor. She recently graduated with a Bachelor of the Arts from Clark University, and her academic achievements reflect her hardwork and dedication to building a safe and welcoming environment. Ruqayah started her ARKanum journey in 2021, and has been a strong part of our team. While being a mentor, Ruqayah also took the lead in planning our past retreats, and has this year’s role of Retreat Coordinator, where her skills of leadership and creativity work together and shine through.

Program Syllabus

    Opening Session

    In our first meeting, we will focus on getting to know each other and welcoming new kids who are joining us. Each mentor will spend quality time with their team to get to know each other better.

    Retreat

    The retreat is an exceptional opportunity to strengthen the bond between mentees within their respective teams and between their mentors. We will learn skills collectively and focus on the components of helping and taking responsibility as a team.

    Session #3

    The theme of this session is "Character Makes the Person: The Best of You Is Reflected in Your Manners." We will draw lessons from the Seerah of the Prophet and his noble character. Additionally, we will introduce the semester's project, which is a Short Film Competition. By the end of the session, our aim is for the children to depart with valuable lessons regarding manners and a stronger attachment to the Prophet.

    Session #4

    The theme of this session is "Steadfastness on Principles." We will delve into the life of the Prophet and extract lessons of steadfastness he displayed in the face of rejection from Quraysh. We will understand how the clarity of his Iman (faith) helped him stay resolute, and how we can draw lessons for modern times. Additionally, we will continue working on the film competition by brainstorming ideas and creating a plan for the rest of the semester.

    Session #5

    The theme of this session is "The Power of Perseverance: Lessons from the Sabr of Prophet Muhammad (SAW)." We will learn how to navigate our challenges today and experience patience through the example of the Prophet. Additionally, we will continue working on the film competition by finalizing ideas and starting to plan locations and times for filming.

    Session #6

    The theme of this session is "Acknowledging Emotions." We will learn how to navigate frustration through the lessons from the story of Abasa and apply these lessons to our lives today. Additionally, we will begin practicing roles and commence filming.

    Session #7

    The theme of this session is "Acknowledging Emotions." We will learn how to cope with sadness through the lessons we can extract from the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and how he responded to them. We will engage in a discussion about the challenges we all face in our lives today. Furthermore, we will continue with the film competition, finalizing filming, and making any necessary role changes or script edits.

    This will be an outing where each mentor goes out with their mentees. The goal is to provide more space and opportunities to strengthen their bonds together.

    Session #9

    The theme of this session is "Acknowledging Your Emotions." We will explore "The Gift of Salah after Ta'if," a journey characterized by vulnerability and divine connection to the Prophet. We will learn how the Prophet dealt with rejection and how his strong connection with Allah helped him cope with difficult situations. Additionally, we will continue to work on the film competition, with teams finalizing their films and preparing for presentations.

    The theme of this session is "Acknowledging Your Emotions." We will delve into the Battle of Uhud and extract lessons about equitable punishment and patience, particularly in the context of the death of Hamza, the uncle of the Prophet. All teams should be in the final stages of completing their films, making last-minute edits, and preparing their presentation plans, including the roles each team member will have during the presentation.

    All cohorts will join an ice skating activity. It will be the final session of the semester and a great opportunity for all mentees and mentors to spend quality time together and have fun.
